National Nursing & Nursing Education Taskforce (N³ET)

The National Nursing & Nursing Education Taskforce (N³ET) was established from 2004 – 2006 as a jointly funded initiative by State/Territory and Commonwealth Departments of Health and Education to implement recommendations of Our Duty of Care, the report of the National Review of Nursing Education.

In addition the Taskforce was responsible for a number of the recommendations from three Australian Health Workforce Committee (AHWAC) nursing workforce reports: (awaiting link confirmation)

Health Ministers also requested that the Taskforce consider a number of issues related to nursing specialisation.

The Taskforce completed its work in an environment of challenge and change, where the national focus was to develop a more sustainable and responsive health workforce through more efficient and effective national arrangements.

Achieving national consistency in nursing and midwifery education, regulation and practice was a key theme for the Taskforce. The Taskforce focused its attention and formed collaborative alliances and partnerships in order to progress this goal.

Statement of Endeavour

The National Nursing & Nursing Education Taskforce was committed to an enhanced and sustainable healthcare system through the promotion of:

  • Professional visibility and pride.
  • Quality education and regulation to nationally consistent standards.
  • Capacity building in practice, education and research.

for nurses and midwives across Australia.

Communication Strategy

Building on the approach of Our Duty of Care, the Taskforce was committed to ensuring that its work was well communicated and understood by the wide variety of stakeholders in the health and education sectors nationally. To effectively implement the recommendations, the Taskforce required the support and collaboration of a number of healthcare, education and nursing organisations throughout and they in turn needed to be well informed about the Taskforce processes and direction of works.

To ensure that all stakeholders could readily access information and updates on the progress of the implementation of the many recommendations, a detailed Communication Strategy was developed. An overview of this strategy is available below.

The overview outlines the aims of the strategy, the Taskforce's initial stakeholder review and the main methods the Taskforce used to connect with the many interested parties. The Communication Strategy built on existing networks and alliances to disseminate information to member organisations.
